Between July and November, Praça dos Arsenalistas, in the Fujacal neighborhood, will be transformed into an open-air laboratory for hands-on creation and imagining the future as a community. The Arqueologias do Futuro (Archeologies of the Future) project, conceived by the architecture studio Parto for the Forma da Vizinhança festival, curated by Space Transcribers, offers a series of 15 community ceramics workshops, open to residents, curious visitors, and enthusiasts of manual practices.
More than just a series of workshops, Arqueologias do Futuro (Archaeologies of the Future) is a proposal to imagine community, shape it over time, and leave a mark on the present that can be discovered—or reinvented—in the future. The workshops take place in a structure especially designed by Parto Atelier for the public space of Fujacal — a greenhouse-laboratory installed in the center of Praça dos Arsenalistas — and invite all participants to get their hands dirty, explore manual techniques, and shape small ceramic pieces, which will then be fired, exhibited on site, and returned at the end of the festival.
More than just learning a technique, it is about participating in a collective gesture that connects territory, material, and shared imagination. The program features leading names in Portuguese ceramics, such as Ateliê Cobalto, António Ramalho, Mina Gallos, Irmãos Baraça, João Lourenço, Thatiana Veronez’s Corpo Cerâmico, and the Terra Quente project, led by Rita Sá Machado. The ceramists of Barcelos are curated by the Barlos association.
