Braga 25 reflects on contemporary challenges facing cultural heritage

On September 29 and October 2, Joana Meneses Fernandes will participate in two separate panels dedicated to discussing heritage, cultural legacy, and the importance of mediation tools in the context of Braga 25.

Next Monday, at 4 pm, at Forum Braga, the Executive and Program Coordinator of Braga 25 will be moderating the conversation “Capitals of Culture: Innovation, Mediation, and Creation,” part of the IDENTI(CIDADE) program. The guests are Ana Bragança, artistic director of the artistic structure ondamarela, Porfírio Correia, from the Culture and Tourism Division of Câmara Municipal de Braga, and John Romão, creator and artistic director of Évora 27 — European Capital of Culture.

IDENTI(CIDADE) aims to create a space for interdisciplinary dialogue and the sharing of best practices, bringing together researchers, professionals, and cultural mediators to discuss the challenges of safeguarding, enhancing, and renewing heritage, understood not only as a legacy of the past, but also as a living and participatory resource for building more inclusive and sustainable futures.

On October 2, Joana Meneses Fernandes, representing the Portuguese Capital of Culture, will participate in the opening session of the Conversas com o Património cycle, alongside researcher and historian Rebeca Blanco. The event, promoted by the Rede de Casas do Conhecimento and the University of Minho, was created with the aim of establishing a space for transdisciplinary dialogue, open to different perspectives and experiences on what we understand as heritage, involving researchers, professionals, students, and the community.

The first conversation in this cycle, which will be attended by Braga 25, will take place between 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the Casa do Conhecimento of the University of Minho (B-Lounge of the General Library, Gualtar Campus).
