There are no bars, but there are walls; there is no whip, but there are rules; there are no chains, but there are borders. And yet, bodies move, eyes scan, hands create. In Braga, where stones tell many stories, a group gathers to reflect and remake the world in their own way. They don’t ask permission, they don’t wait for authorization, they just do it. New geographies, lines that no longer delimit, but liberate. The stories, read aloud, echo like someone remembering something they always knew, but were taught to forget.
They called the desire to leave a disease, they gave it a name, a diagnosis, and a cure. But now, Neo-Drapetomania is no longer escape: it is progress, it is construction, it is the future. Thus, like a mosaic of expressions, an invitation to contemplation and questioning, a journey through the paths of art and history.
Diogo “Gazella” Carvalho (Lisbon, 1997) is a multidisciplinary artist and co-founder of the Unidigrazz collective, who grew up in Linha de Sintra. He has presented works at MAAT, MUSA, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Iminente, and Mar Mott, combining cinema, theater, muralism, and photography. He is the author of the mural “L’Oeillet, Fleur de la Révolution” (Marseille, 2024) and is part of a fictional RTP series premiering in 2025. His practice focuses on social justice and amplifying peripheral voices through visual narratives.
