The colonial past remains very present in the streets of Braga — sometimes visible to the naked eye, other times almost invisible. On this tour, we will stop at street names such as General Norton de Matos, observe a Padrão (monument) and several armillary spheres scattered throughout the city. We will also come across historical figures linked to the Catholic Church and the colonial project, whose names still live on in public spaces.
Along the way, we will talk about how Braga related to other continents during the colonial period — Africa, America, Asia — and how this connection is still felt today, for example, in businesses that use names, images, and products such as coffee, tea, or spices. The proposal is simple: walk through the city, look carefully, talk about what surrounds us, and reflect on how colonial history continues, subtly or explicitly, to be part of the present.
