Braga will host the European Culture Next network conference in 2027

Meeting dedicated to digital transformation in the cultural sector to take place between 20 and 22 October next year.

Braga has been selected to host the 6th Conference of the European network Culture Next in autumn 2027, dedicated to the theme of digital transformation in the cultural sector. As a founding city of this European network, Braga sees its strategic vision and continued commitment to cultural innovation at European level recognised once again.

The decision was confirmed by Culture Next during the conference held last week in Larnaca, Cyprus, a city that will become European Capital of Culture in 2030. Braga’s application, represented in the network by Faz Cultura, highlighted the lasting legacy of Braga 25 Portuguese Capital of Culture, as well as the consistent work developed through its candidacy for European Capital of Culture.

Nuno Gouveia, Executive Director of Faz Cultura, highlighted that “hosting the Culture Next conference in Braga reinforces the city’s international role within European networks of culture and innovation. At a time when digital transformation is reshaping artistic creation, models of cultural participation and cooperation between cities, we want this conference to contribute to building new international bridges and new ways of thinking about cultural policies in the digital era.”

As a UNESCO Creative City in the field of Media Arts, Braga positions itself as a territory of experimentation at the intersection of art, technology and society, offering unique conditions to host this European reflection on the future of culture.

The Culture Next Braga 2027 Conference will take place between 20 and 22 October across several venues in the city, bringing together policymakers, cultural leaders, creative networks and specialists from across Europe. This international gathering will help position Braga as a living laboratory for the future of culture in the digital age, fostering debate, knowledge-sharing and European cooperation.

Founded in 2017, Culture Next is a European network bringing together former, current and candidate cities for the title of European Capital of Culture. Its mission is to support these cities in defining and implementing urban development strategies based on culture and creativity, promoting international cooperation, capacity-building and the creation of sustainable legacies beyond the candidacy cycle.
