Yesterday, on December 11th, protocols were signed to provide financial support to the municipalities of Braga and Aveiro, which will be Portuguese Capitals of Culture in 2025 and 2024, respectively.
The funding for the realization of Braga 25 – Portuguese Capital of Culture amounts to nine million euros, with seven million secured by the municipality, one million by the North Regional Program 2030, and one million by the government (through Tourism of Portugal and the Office of Cultural Strategy, Planning, and Evaluation).
According to Ricardo Rio, Mayor of the Municipality of Braga, the year 2025 will be a moment of celebration of the city’s culture.
“We identify culture as a strategic vector for the development of Braga and will reinforce investment in this area, improving and expanding facilities and ensuring the strengthening of cultural dynamics. The relationship with cultural agents has always been crucial in defining our strategy, and we also want to find alternative financing processes so that the projects we are working on are sustainable in the long term,” said the mayor.
The ceremony, which took place in Aveiro, was also attended by Ribau Esteves, Mayor of the Municipality of Aveiro, Ana Abrunhosa, Minister of Territorial Cohesion, and Pedro Adão e Silva, Portuguese Minister of Culture.
