Shopyard Summer School is an intensive program focused on experimentation, aimed at students and recent graduates in architecture and related fields. The initiative will bring together 30 participants, proposing the reimagining and discussion of the activation of first generation shopping centers in Braga.

The applicants will be accompanied by three invited architecture studios: OITOO (Porto), BUREAU (Lisbon/Geneva) and OUEST (Brussels), who will guide the development of spatial and social proposals for three sites: Shopping Santa Cruz, Shopping Santa Bárbara and Centro Comercial Galécia. The Summer School program will also include events open to the public, such as lectures, visits, film screenings, a thought assembly and other activities.

Throughout the week, there will also be events open to the public, all taking place at the Shopyard Headquarters, located in shop 33, Shopping Santa Cruz:

19 JUL, 16:00–18:00 — Shopyard Assembly II
An interdisciplinary discussion with Ana Catarino, Frederico Duarte and Janina Gosseye on the social and urban role of shopping centres.

21 JUL, 18:00 — Talk with mentors BUREAU (Geneva / Lisbon)
The Portuguese–Swiss architecture studio BUREAU shares its critical practice across architecture, design and culture.

22 JUL, 18:00 — Talk with mentors OUEST (Brussels)
The Belgian studio OUEST presents its approach to building reuse and social impact.

23 JUL, 18:00 — Talk with mentors OITOO (Porto / Lisbon)
The Portuguese studio Oitoo showcases examples of projects focused on space reactivation and urban regeneration.

25 JUL, 10:00–13:00 — Final presentations
A tour of the proposals developed for the three shopping centres. Meeting point: Galécia Shopping Centre
