The ringing of the bells can be festive or ceremonial, summoning jubilation or seclusion. Or it can be a call for transformation between one state and another.
The New Echoes of a Soundscape programme proposes an experience of transfiguration, which will echo through the streets of the city, with an unprecedented performance on the carillon of Braga Cathedral. The viola braguesa and the cavaquinho will join the sound of the bells to create a unique experience. The concert takes place on the Saturday evening of Holy Week, symbolically marking the moment when Catholic believers exchange the mourning of Jesus’ death for the joy of his resurrection.
