The Teatro Nacional de São Carlos comes to Theatro Circo to present Georg Friedrich Händel’s oratorio Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno, a piece that echoes like a universal and timeless force.
Composed in 1707, when Händel was in Rome, the work was written at the request of Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili, a man of letters who provided him with the libretto entitled La Bellezza ravveduta nel trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno.
Unable to create operas due to the Pope’s ban, Händel transformed the oratorio into a work full of musical theatricality. The plot revolves around four characters: Beauty, Pleasure, Time and Deceit.
