Four musicians from different generations and geographies, all esteemed names in the free jazz world, come together in Monster. Looking at the quartet of superstars, there’s one you can’t miss: the eternal saxophonist Joe McPhee. At 85, the multi-instrumentalist is a key figure in jazz and improvised music.
Monster is completed by a luxury cast: Susanna Gartmayer, one of Austria’s most important clarinettists and composers; the British John Edwards, with a long career in free jazz dating back to the 1980s, is in charge of the double bass; Mariá Portugal, a Brazilian drummer, composer and singer, a key name in São Paulo’s experimental scene, completes the quartet.
We are preparing a year-long celebration of national artistic creation, in connection with Europe and with the artists and cultural agents from Braga.
