An entremez is a short one-act dramatic composition that was particularly illustrious between the 16th and 18th centuries.
O Juiz Novo das Borracheiras presumably dates from the latter period and belongs to the tradition of cordel theatre, which was very present in Lisbon’s popular theatres at the time. As it is a sarcastic and corrosive judicial parody, the author has remained anonymous. The satirical text is brought to the stage of the Theatro Circo by Nova Comédia Bracarense, as part of Braga En’Cena, an initiative that, between March and November, celebrates theatre made by local groups in the city’s most emblematic theatre.
