Two of the greatest works of 20th century music are performed in a concert in the form of a collective reflection, celebrated by the incandescent energy of the Young Portuguese Orchestra, a group made up of young musicians aged between 14 and 28, selected through auditions throughout Portugal.
The programme includes Coming Together, by Frederic Rzewski (1938-2021), combined with a magnificent text by actor and activist Sam Melville, rescued by Rzewski from letters Melville wrote in prison in Attica (New York), where he died, and the Fifth Symphony, by Dmitri Shostakovich (1906-1975), which inspires the listener to reflect on violence, propaganda, jubilation and forced celebration.
Programme: Frederic Rzewski, Coming Together; Dmitri Shostakovich, Symphony No. 5 in D minor, op. 47/ Young Portuguese Orchestra: Miguel Azguime (Narrator), Pedro Carneiro (Musical Direction), Teresa Simas (Staging)
We are preparing a year-long celebration of national artistic creation, in connection with Europe and with the artists and cultural agents from Braga.
