Every winter, the tradition of singing Janeiras – or Reis, as it is more commonly called in Minho – is renewed. When a new year begins, groups of singers take to the streets to wish Happy Holidays and celebrate the bonds of community.
The inscription of this tradition in the region’s customs dates back to time immemorial and Encontro de Grupos de Reis de Braga is also historic, celebrating its 37th edition this year.
With the aim of preserving and enhancing local customs and identity, in a spirit of valuing this legacy, 11 choral and folkloric groups will come together, with members of all ages. Accompanied by traditional instruments, they will make wishes of prosperity and happiness for 2025.
Taking part in this edition are: Amigos do Cavaquinho de Gondizalves, Coro da Adra, Coro da Igreja Paroquial de São Lázaro, Coro de Cantares da Maxiseci, Grupo Coral do Seminário de Fraião, Grupo Folclórico Infantil-Juvenil do Carreiro, Grupo Folclórico de Macada – Vimieiro, Grupo Folclórico de S. Miguel de Gualtar, Rancho Folclórico da ACR de Cabreiros, Rancho Folclórico Santa Cecília de Vilaça, Rusga de Merelim S. Paio.
We are preparing a year-long celebration of national artistic creation, in connection with Europe and with the artists and cultural agents from Braga.
