Contra-Quiosque

Contra-Quiosque invited five artists to occupy disused kiosks across Braga with original works developed through research into personal and institutional collections and archives.

In 2025, the kiosks, rehabilitated by architect António Pedro Faria, were transformed into a polycentric museum distributed throughout the city, hosting a series of micro-exhibitions. The project brought together works created through artistic residencies by Emília Rigová, Hilda de Paulo, Maria Trabulo, Marta Machado, and Miguel Teodoro, whose practices revealed, questioned, and opened up discussion around marginalised narratives, including those of migrant communities, multicultural communities, LGBTQIA+ groups, and the territory itself, understood as a living ecosystem in constant transformation.

Through these interventions, Contra-Quiosque reactivated overlooked urban spaces, creating new opportunities for artistic encounter and public engagement while fostering critical reflection on identity, belonging, memory, and place.
