Pipe Poetics

Pipe Poetics promotes the creation and public presentation of new compositions for Braga’s Iberian Pipe Organs, bringing together the avant-garde of contemporary music and one of the city’s most distinctive cultural heritage assets.

Throughout 2025, three contemporary composers with distinct artistic practices and musical languages — Kara-Lis Coverdale, Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, and Claire M. Singer — were invited to develop new approaches to composition for the pipe organ. Each artist undertook a period of artistic residency during which they created an original work conceived specifically for the instruments and the architectural settings of Braga’s churches.

The resulting compositions were presented to the public at different moments throughout the year in three emblematic venues: the Basilica of the Congregados, the Church of São Lázaro, and the Church of Santa Cruz. By commissioning new works for historic instruments, Pipe Poetics fostered a dialogue between contemporary artistic creation and Braga’s rich musical and architectural heritage.
