RESISTANCE! – Youth Festival of Modern European History was a European performing arts project dedicated to critical reflection on the causes and consequences of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes in modern European history. Developed over a two-year period, the project brought together young people, artists, and cultural institutions from Portugal, Italy, France, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and the Netherlands, fostering transnational historical perspectives and dialogue between diverse European contexts and experiences.
In Portugal, RESISTANCE! was delivered in partnership with Faz Cultura and formed part of the preparatory process for Braga 25. It coincided with the commemorations of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution (25 April), which served as the starting point for the performative creation developed by participating young people.
Presented in Braga between 2 and 4 May 2024, as part of the Festival Política, the project included performances followed by discussion sessions with young audiences, encouraging reflection, exchange, and civic engagement through artistic practice.
