Roots Club

The musical heritage of Braga and the Minho region provided the starting point for Clube Raiz. The programme sought to create an ecosystem for the celebration and promotion of traditional music in the city and across the region, valuing the knowledge, practices, and repertoires deeply rooted in the territory.

The programme unfolded through a series of unique performances, including the collaboration between the Grupo de Cantares de Mulheres do Minho and students from the Calouste Gulbenkian Music Conservatory, presented as part of the Braga 25 opening programme; the encounter between Ana Lua Caiano and Bandua; and Seara – Portuguese Music in Evolution, which brought the artistic programme of the Portuguese Capital of Culture to a close.

Clube Raiz also extended into public space through street performances by Braga-based percussion groups and fostered the sharing of knowledge through workshops and the Roda da Tradição series, which brought together music and gastronomy, reinforcing the programme’s community-driven and intergenerational character.

Clube Raiz is a legacy project of Braga 25 – Portuguese Capital of Culture.
