Sexual Theatre – Feminist Readings of Classics was a European artistic cooperation project that promoted feminist reinterpretations of literary classics from four countries (Portugal, France, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Montenegro), through the creation and circulation of new theatre productions.
Throughout 2024, international pairs of directors and dramaturgs collaborated with local casts and women’s rights organisations to develop four original productions. These works toured in a festival format across the partner countries in 2025.
The project was part of Braga 25 and featured the following productions: Sai e Luta?, based on New Portuguese Letters; As Vivas, inspired by the work of Ivo Andrić; A Terra que nos Negam, based on a Montenegrin folk legend; and Linda Voz, inspired by The Nun by Denis Diderot.
Team in Portugal: Maria Inês Marques (Coordinator); Hugo Loureiro (Project Manager); Cátia Faísco (Dramaturg); Júlio Cerdeira (Director)
