Diderot, known as the ‘avant-garde genius of new truths’, wrote a work of public and universal relevance: The Religious (1792). A woman’s struggle against the bonds of institutional oppression and the dismantling of social norms that boldly and directly reflect society.
In many ways, this work, written in the context of the French Revolution, is a mirror of our times. The play “A Beautiful Voice” is inspired by Diderot’s novel, but is rooted in research and conversations with women currently living in France from various social backgrounds.
