This workshop invites you to learn about the history of the cavaquinho, understand its construction, the calibre of the strings, the technique, the type of repertoire and even amplification.
You’ll also be able to scrutinise all the perspectives of the cavaquinho, understand how to keep it in tune and extract from it its unique sound, with the technique of rasgado with the thumb and the art of playing harmony, melody and rhythm simultaneously.
Daniel Pereira Cristo has dedicated his life to the study of the popular tetracord and other traditional chordophones and has been passing on the knowledge he has accumulated over the years in his always interesting cavaquinho and traditional music workshops.
This workshop is part of the Roots Club programme of Braga 25 Portuguese Capital of Culture/ Curator: Ilídio Marques/ Trainer: Daniel Pereira Cristo
